Module 2: The Body and Brain of Anger

Anger often feels like a thought problem, but it is also a body state. Heart rate, breathing, muscle tension and threat scanning can rise before the person has chosen words.

The 60-second reset

  1. Stop speaking for one breath.
  2. Lower your shoulders and unclench your hands.
  3. Exhale longer than you inhale.
  4. Name the body signal: “I am activated.”
  5. Delay the response until the body is cooler.
The aim is not to suppress anger. The aim is to prevent anger from driving the car.
